To quote the lyrics of a song, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!” next Summer a good friend of mine and a former Royal Marine will be taking on the cycling challenge that is Lands End to John O’Groats challenge, (LEJOG) in the process raising money and awareness for RMA (The Royal Marines Charity) and Dementia UK.
I met Andy during a charity ride in the Vendee region of France where we cycled 205km in a day for Prostate Cancer UK, this was an event that rode the 1st Stage of the Tour de France a week before the Pro’s did on that year, always being up for a challenge and having lost a close relative 18 months to the horrible disease, I was more than happy to push myself to the limits to raise awareness and money for a charity close to my heart.
As the years followed Andy and I have kept close contact with each other, partly due to our love of football (which we’ll leave that there) and our love of cycling. Andy made comment back in 2019 that he was going LEJOG, then he told me how he was doing it. Not the usual 9 days, stopping overnight, somewhere to recoup, Andy is in fact going to do this in one hit, please read his story on the link below for more details:
Grinsty Rail are proud to be supporting Andy in his challenge, I am aiming to be supporting him on his ride, both on and off the bike.
If you would like to donate to his charities, help motivate and support Andy in his quest, please see the GoFundMe campaign below! You can also check out the Facebook page here too.
