Who is Georgie Brayshaw?

Georgie Brayshaw’s story is one of resilience, grit, and unyielding determination. At just 15 years old, Georgie’s life took a dramatic turn when she suffered a severe head injury from a horse-riding accident, which left her in a coma for nine days and paralysed on her left side. Her recovery was long and arduous, requiring intensive rehab and physiotherapy.

However, Georgie’s indomitable spirit shone through. She not only returned to school but excelled in her GCSEs, A-levels, and later at the University of Northampton. It was here that she discovered rowing, a sport that would soon become her passion and career.

The Road to Becoming a World Champion

Georgie Brayshaw’s entry into rowing came during her second year at university. She joined Leeds Rowing Club to stay fit, and her natural talent quickly became apparent. Her dedication and hard work saw her introduced to the GB team via the York Start programme.

In 2023, Georgie reached a significant milestone by becoming a World Champion in the Women’s quad, a title GB had not won since 2010. This victory marked the beginning of her illustrious career and set the stage for her Olympic triumph.

Making History at the Paris 2024 Olympics

The pinnacle of Georgie’s rowing career came at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Alongside her crewmates Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott, and Lauren Henry, Georgie made history by securing GB’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in the Women’s quadruple sculls. In a nail-biting race, they overtook the Netherlands in the very last stroke, showcasing the sheer power of perseverance and teamwork.
