At Grinsty Rail, we’re delighted to have played a part in spreading some festive cheer this holiday season!
In just over three months, the dedicated team at Wensleydale Railway, made up of staff and volunteers, completed an incredible refurbishment of three Mark 2 carriages—just in time for their magical POLAR EXPRESS™ Christmas train services.
Our role in this project was to fully reupholster the carriages’ seating, ensuring passengers enjoy a comfortable and festive journey. The upgrades included replacing the seat bases with memory foam, removing life-expired springs, and modifying the seat buckets to improve passenger access. We also reupholstered the seats to give them a fresh, high-quality finish, ready to welcome families and friends for a truly special Christmas experience.
The refurbishment didn’t stop there. Wensleydale Railway’s team also carried out significant bodywork repairs, internal refurbishments, lighting upgrades to LED, and installed new batteries. The carriages are now in top condition and ready to form part of their 9-carriage-long POLAR EXPRESS™ train, which promises to bring the magic of Christmas to life for passengers of all ages.
This project is a testament to the incredible work of Wensleydale Railway’s team, led by their engineering and operations manager, Rob Cooper-Williamson. Their commitment to improving the customer experience is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to have collaborated with them on this festive initiative.
