Grinsty was proud to play a part in the historic celebrations marking the 200-year anniversary of the
railway industry, held over the weekend of 1st-3rd August 2025. The milestone event brought
together thousands from across the industry and the wider public to honour two centuries of railway
innovation and contribution to society.
On Thursday evening, Grinsty Chair Mike Thompson and Head of Sales David Brookes had the
pleasure of attending the VIP launch of The Greatest Gathering at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane works in
Derby. The prestigious opening event was led by Hélène Duchêne, French Ambassador to the UK;
Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO of Alstom; Rob Whyte, Managing Director of Alstom UK; and Baggy
Shanker MP for Derby South and member of the Transport Select Committee. The evening brought
together over 400 industry dignitaries and leaders for a memorable celebration of rail heritage and
future vision.
Continuing Grinsty’s involvement throughout the weekend, David Brookes also volunteered on
Saturday at the Rail Forum trade association stand. Saturday alone saw more than 12,500 visitors,
with total attendance across the weekend exceeding 40,000. The event was not only a celebration
of the past, but also a powerful statement of optimism and unity for the future of the rail industry.
“The whole weekend was a tremendously positive occasion,” said David Brookes. “It was fantastic
to see such a strong turnout and enthusiasm from the public and industry alike. We were honoured
to support this historic event.”
Grinsty congratulates all those involved in organising and participating in such a significant and
successful celebration of railway heritage.
